Two souls intertwined. One epic love story.
Get swept away in the captivating romance between political opposites Caroline Gerard and Jack McIntyre.
The West Wing meets The Hunger Games in The Bellator Saga, a rollercoaster ride of political intrigue, passion, and undying love.

This set contains the first three books in the series, Dissident, Conscience, and Sojourn.

Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard is reluctant to fall in love again after losing her husband. Can Republican playboy Jack McIntyre break through her grief and capture her heart? Told mostly in flashback and set against a chilling fascist backdrop, Dissident is a rollercoaster ride of political intrigue, passionate romance, and undying love.

Caroline faces the biggest challenge of her life when confronted with the cruelty and sadism of her captors at The Fed. Hope fades quickly, even as she holds onto her one last bit of sanity and her unshakable belief that her husband will rescue her. But is that faith just a mirage?

Reeling from her experiences at The Fed, Caroline tries to forge ahead and create a new identity. But that’s hard to do with the ghosts of the past constantly whispering in her ear. She is determined to find the rebellion and move on with her life, but what will she find when she arrives there?

When they reached the ballroom he locked the door behind him. Jack walked over to one of the decorative side tables and produced a box wrapped with red paper.

“Merry Christmas,” he said, handing it to her.

“Why didn’t you give this to me earlier?”

“I needed us to be in private when I gave it to you. Open it.”

It had to be jewelry. “I told you not to get me anything outlandish.”

“I don’t have to listen to you. Even if we are married.”

Caroline ripped the paper away. She opened the box and was greeted with an exquisite emerald necklace. Fringe design, with each individual green stone framed by tiny sparkling diamonds. The necklace was dripping with jewels from end to end. It looked like a prop from an eighties soap opera except it was stunningly, gorgeously real. She wouldn’t even want to speculate about the cost. “Jack-”

“Do you like it?” he asked.

She was convinced he only gave her presents just to gauge her reaction. To see how long she’d gawk at them before starting to gush. Caroline wasn’t refined when it came to her spontaneous responses to him. Did she like the necklace? A rather silly question since it was one of the most amazing things she’d ever seen.

“It’s beautiful,” she whispered.

He took the box from her. “I didn’t recall seeing you with anything other than sapphires or diamonds. We’re going to have to do something about that.”

She could only imagine the media attention they’d get if she paraded around wearing a necklace that cost more than what the average household made in a year, several times over. Sometimes her husband forgot that he was running for governor, not auditioning for the cast of Falcon Crest. “It’s too much, Jack. It’s so…elaborate. I can’t wear that in public.”

He smiled. “Then don’t. Wear it just for me.”

“Just around the house? Like, when I’m watching baseball and stuff?”

He laughed. “‘And stuff’?”

Her language was less polished than usual. “I’ve had a ton to drink today. I can’t always be articulate.”

Jack pulled her to him, leaning toward her ear. “How about you wear the necklace and nothing else, and grant your husband a dance?”

Now she saw where he was going. “A nice Christmas waltz?” Caroline suggested. “Fully clothed, of course. We must always be proper.”

He tugged at her sweater. “Try again.”

His romantic and seductive gestures were sweet, but impractical. “It’s cold in here.”

“I’ll turn the heat up.”

“What about you?”

“We don’t need to worry about me.”

Caroline sighed. “I meant your clothes.”

He unbuttoned her pants. “They’re staying on.”

That seemed unfair. “I’m not sure I like this power differential.”

Jack ran a finger under the waistband of her panties. “I think you do,” he whispered.

She shivered when he pulled her pants and underwear down. “Will there be music? Or are you going to parade my naked self around the ballroom in silence?”

“I picked a special song for the two of us.” He grinned. “And you won’t be naked. You’ll be wearing the necklace.”

She ran her hands down the front of his shirt, imagining how it would feel for her bare chest to rub against it while they danced. “You will undress at some point, right?”

He kissed her again. “Upstairs. Let me do this,” he said softly, stripping off the rest of her clothes, even her bra and panties. He laughed when he reached her socks. “Are those dinosaurs?”

Caroline liked wearing fun socks. She didn’t care if they were juvenile. She’d get away with it for as long as she could. “They’re wearing little Santa hats.”

Though he’d started to yank them down, he hastily pulled them back up to below her knees. “These can stay on. But only because they make you look so damn adorable.”

She tried not to think of what she’d look like wearing nothing but whimsical dinosaur knee socks and an emerald necklace, but the expression on his face indicated that Jack didn’t particularly care. He kissed her deeply before retrieving the necklace. He took his time placing it around her neck, then stepped back to look at her. It took all her effort not to blush. She hadn’t anticipated the night ending this way.

Jack tipped her chin up. “You look fucking marvelous.”

Her face had to be as red as a cherry. “Even with the socks?”
He brushed a stray hair out of her face. “There are few things sexier than a woman wearing an emerald necklace and dinosaur socks…and nothing else.”

REVIEW: It Ends With Us by, Colleen Hoover

Amazon | B&N | KOBO | iBooks | Audible

~ Synopsis~

Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up – she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. when Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart – wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

This book went up for pre-order and I bought it without even a synopsis, or a cover. Because that’s what Colleen Hoover is for me. She’s a one-click – doesn’t matter to me what the story is about, I’ll find out when I crack it open. I never read early reviews because I don’t want the ideas of other people to influence my read. Picking up this book I knew a few things. It was making people cry. It was being praised as Colleen Hoover’s best novel  yet – and it would break me.

Now, that’s saying a lot, considering Hopeless, Losing Hope and Maybe Someday are three of my Top Favorite Books of all time. These books matter to me – and not in the way most people think of a book, “Oh yeah I really enjoyed that.” Or “Sure, it was good.” These.Books.Matter. They’re living breathing things to me –

I didn’t even read the synopsis for this book. I stopped myself from reading anything and everything that was out there – I wanted to dive in head first and experience it all first hand – but I wasn’t prepared for the affect it would have on me. Or the fact that I literally couldn’t concentrate on anything but this story while I read it – work, husband, anniversary…. All went out the window while I lived this story. I met Lily and Ryle – on a rooftop in Boston; where their personalities leaped off the page, like only two strangers meeting for the first time can. Both of them suffering in their own way from the events of their day, ultimately bringing them to this very spot. This rooftop. This time. This conversation that will cement in their minds possibilities neither one of them really wants to admit to themselves. It was just one night. It was just one conversation. But …. it was full of naked truths.

“Fifteen seconds. That’s all it takes to completely change everything about a person. Fifteen.”

I can’t properly describe the emotions I felt reading this novel. I can’t properly describe the emotions I have at this moment writing this review. I had to step away – I had to take a few days to get my mind wrapped around this book. The words – the stages of experiences these characters have, evoked something inside me in a way I was not prepared for. I’ve been emotionally invested in Colleen’s characters in the past, but when I read It Ends With Us?  I have never experienced that level of emotional involvement – In.My.Life.

“I feel like everyone fakes who they really are, when deep down we’re all equal amounts of screwed up. Some of us are just better at hiding it than others.”

We get to experience Lily & Ryle’s relationship from the beginning – we also get a glimpse into her past and the relationship she and Atlas cultivate at an age when everything is so new and intense. Everything you experience at fifteen feels like the beginning of the best thing in your world – or the most devastating thing you ever thought could happen. There is no balance at fifteen. But Lily & Atlas’s lives aren’t necessarily ordinary – their relationship built on the misery of their day to day lives. These two share a bond you can tell, still very much affects Lily – even now in the present.

“Sometimes – not very often at all, actually – a voice will penetrate past my ears and reverberate straight down through my body.”

It Ends With Us is told through a multitude of layers – from the very beginning. This is one of the hardest reviews I have ever written in the three years I’ve been blogging, because I don’t want to give away anything. This isn’t a second chance romance – this isn’t just a romance book – this isn’t a love triangle. This is a book that will blow your perspective away – leaving you questioning a lot of your own ideals. I felt this book on a whole other level because of my own experiences and once you read the book, you’ll understand that even more. It made me see things from a whole different perspective and I allowed myself to quit second guessing – and to quit making excuses not only for other people, but for myself.

I can’t tell you the amount of people I’ve told to read this – bought this for – talked about this story with. Colleen’s not just given us a novel – she’s given us a part of herself.

It was beautiful – it was ugly – it was funny – and it was real.

“There is no such thing as bad people. We are all just people who do bad things.”

REVIEW: Cream of the Crop (Hudson Valley #2) by, Alice Clayton

Amazon | B&N | KOBO | iBooks | Audible

~ Synopsis ~

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton brings her trademark blend of funny and sexy to this second contemporary romance int eh brand-new Hudson Valley Series!

Manhattan’s It Girl, Natalie Grayson, has it all: she’s a hot exec at a leading advertising firm, known industry-wide for her challenging and edgy campaigns. She’s got a large circle of friends, a family that loves her dearly, and her dance card is always full with handsome eligible bachelors. What else could a modern gal-about-town wish for? The answer, of course, is… cheese.

Natalie’s favorite part of each week is spending Saturday morning at the Union Square Farmer’s Market, where she indulges her love of all things triple cream. Her favorite booth also indulges her love of all things handsome. Oscar Mendoza, owner of the Bailey Falls Creamery and purveyor of the finest artisanal cheeses the Hudson Valley has to offer, is tall, dark, mysterious, and a bit oblivious. Or so she thinks. But that doesn’t stop Natalie from fantasizing about the size of his, ahem, milk can.

Romance is churning, passion is burning, and something incredible is rising to the top. Could it be…. love?

I have been in the worlds WORST book funk for months – blame it on the 55hr work weeks, blame it on whatever…. I’ve completely cheated on my Kindle with Netflix, movies and painting my damn nails. But there is nothing and I mean NOTHING like a new Alice Clayton book to break you out of that funk!

Her humor – and snarky heroine’s are some of my absolute favorite things. The innuendo, the HUMOR! And of course, the little tidbits of 90’s pop culture she throws in there to make a girl my age totally fucking swoon. Like in Nuts – when Roxy is all about the blonde hunky farmer Leo ala Almanzo Wilder – Little House on the Prairie. Or Caroline in Wallbanger trying to get her “O” back by diving into her spank bank and bring out a little Jordan Catalano action in the boiler room. This is why I love this woman.

Cream of the Crop is no different – but hit home a lot harder for a lot of different reasons. Natalie, one of Roxy’s best friends we were introduced to in Nuts – is crushing on her own Bailey Falls Farmer – The creator of the most amazing cheese this side of the Hudson River… Oscar Mendoza, who by shear coincidence is selling his amazing cheese at her favorite farmer’s market in the city every Saturday – to which of course, Natalie is there to have a two syllable conversation and ogle the hell out of his brie – taking her cheese and scurrying away like a little mouse. Where is the loud – no-fucks-given – hip swaying girl we caught a glimpse of in Nuts? Well apparently when Oscar is around – Natalie turns into all of us at 14 – a nervous ball of pent up energy.

There are many things I loved about Natalie – she is for sure your classic Clayton heroine – but there’s something else. She’s a size 18 and unapologetic about it – which I adore. She’s brazen – she’s loud – and she knows that her hips, thighs and chest are larger in proportion but also in charge. But as we dive deeper into the story we find out this confidence wasn’t always there and I may have shed a tear or two of her back story – of the pain she felt, the humiliation – the sheer hatred of your own body is something most women experience at some point in their life. It’s  just time – growth and realization that makes us finally comfortable in our own skin. Hell i’m 38 and still struggle with this, so reading this book…. it cut me more than once.

Natalie and Oscar … good god, Clayton has basically given us Jason Momoa & Christina Hendricks, down to her hip swaying curves and his sexy-as-hell scar thru his eyebrow. Oscar is a block of man – doesn’t talk much and holds that quiet mysterious thing we all kind of love…. Natalie is hilarious trying to work out how to be around him with out acting like a fool – running away – scarring his cows and finally just taking what she wants; as she would in any other situation with a man.  But as the relationship between these two evolve, there is the ever present back story – with both of them and as things come together – things start to fall apart and we have to wonder, can the Dairy Farmer give this City girl everything she needs? Or is Natalie a little too high maintenance for Oscar’s life on the farm? Are their lives just too different to mesh together?

I love all things Alice Clayton – if you haven’t read any of her books, stop whatever you’re doing and grab one – any one – and you will fall in love with the snark – the humor – and yes,  definitely the smut.

REVIEW: Moonshot by Alessandra Torre

Amazon | Amazon UK | Amazon CA | Amazon AU | B&N | iTunes | KOBO

~ Synopsis ~

Baseball isn’t supposed to be a game of life and death…

The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game. Chase… he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.

I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.

Then the team starting losing.

Women started dying.

And everything in my world broke apart.

Wow – this book. Moonshot hit me right in the feels for a lot of different reasons. The first being the author – because Alessandra Torre has this insane talent when it comes to characters. They’re three dimensional, complex emotions that hook into you. Ty & Chase were no different. Ty, only seventeen when she meets Chase for the first time, you get that first love feeling, the tingles… the fantastic feeling of the firsts. Those conversations you have at the beginning of every relationship, opening up and falling in love….

Add the fact that Ty’s father is a New York Yankee and Chase is the new trade…. one that her father is warning her about from the get go? Oh the ANGST!!

I was raised a ballrat from the moment I could walk. Every season was spent at the baseball field watching my older brother’s play ball. Eventually, I took over as bat girl…. so reading through Ty’s chapters was very reminiscent of my childhood – sitting around the boys, being completely enthralled in the game…. and that fantasy I had every summer sitting in that dug out …. with whatever summer crush I’d have…. Chase was the epitome of that.

But then we’re thrown a curve – a massive curve that will leave you wondering WTF?!?! And reading as fast as you can to find out what happens next. Somethings I saw coming…. and then BAM! I was hit so hard for a loop – I threw my kindle, cursed Torre’s name and nearly had a fit.

You can tell how good a book is going to be by the amount of cussing you do at intimate objects… i.e. throwing your kindle. But this is why her books are fantastic – she doesn’t ever play by the rules.

And then…. there are the dead girls.

This book is so much more than your average romance – it’s a first time love story, it’s a second chance love story, it’s a suspenseful murder mystery that leave so many questions unanswered until the very end…. one that will leave you gasping!

REVIEW: I’d Know You Anywhere by, Laura Lippman

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks * Audible

~ Synopsis ~

Eliza Benedict cherishes her peaceful, ordinary suburban life with her successful husband and children, thirteen-year-old Iso and eight-year-old Albie. But her tranquility is shattered when she receives a letter from the last person she ever expects – or wants – to hear from: Walter Bowman. “There was your photo, in a magazine. Of course, you are old now. Still, i’d know you anywhere.”

In the summer of 1985, when she was fifteen, Eliza was kidnapped by Walter and held hostage for almost six weeks. He had killed at least one girl and Eliza always suspected he had other victims as well. Now on death row in Virginia for the rape and murder of his final victim, Walter seems to be making a heartfelt act of contrition as his execution nears.

Though Eliza wants nothing to do with him, she’s never forgotten that Walter was most unpredictable when ignored. Desperate to shelter her children from this undisclosed trauma in her past, she cautiously makes contact with Walter. She’s always wondered why Walter let her live, and perhaps now he’ll tell her – and share the truth about his other victims.

Yet as Walter presses her for more and deeper contact, it becomes clear that he is after something greater than forgiveness. He wants Eliza to remember what really happened that long-ago summer. He wants her to save his life. And Eliza, who has worked hard for her comfortable, cocooned life, will do anything to protect it — even if it means finally facing the events of that horrifying summer and the terrible truth she’s kept buried inside.

I’ve been holding onto this book – in hardback no less, for probably 2 1/5 years. I grabbed it one day browsing around Powell’s bookstore in downtown Portland. I was intrigued from the synopsis, but just never got around to reading it. Until now.

I blame The Girl on the Train – I was in the mood for something similar, something with a little suspense, something with a dark plot that will leave me riveted. And I was not disappointed.

This book – though not overly complicated, weaves us through a number of stories. Eliza’s present, Elizabeth’s past – and the relationship she’s cultivated with Walter Bowman in both. Now – an adult, wife and mother she’s obviously leery of anything to do with Walter, after all she spent over a month with him when she was just fifteen years old, she knows what’s he’s capable of, but mostly she’s worried what will happen if she ignores him – even though Walter himself, and everyone involved won’t allow her to.

Eliza has managed to put everything behind her – she’s found a man who loves her, she’s built a beautiful family, the last thing she needs is any reminders of those weeks she was held captive with Walter. But even so, questions from the past come lingering – complicated questions no one should ever have to think of…. the why’s, the how-comes, and something that’s haunted Eliza this entire time…. why didn’t you kill me?

Walter – though written as a fairly simple character is anything but – and it’s frightening how unassuming his characterizations are illustrated. As if the horrible things he’s done is just something anyone would do given the situation. His rationalizations were incredibly telling – and now Eliza is forced to confront all of her past – and perhaps everyone else’s that suffered.

As the story moves between past and present Laura Lippman gives us a detailed view of how just five weeks can change the lives of people – the people you meet, the experiences you share and how those affect everyone involved. It was interesting and at times disturbing. She is brutal in her honest narration. I’d Know You Anywhere left me satisfied, yet disturbed, but only in the best possible way a book can.

Or did it?

Lennox ‘Nox’ Demetri and Alexandria ‘Charli’ Collins had every intention of following it but rules are made to be broken. In CUNNING they are reunited with Nox setting down new rules for the game and Charli having no choice but to follow them.

Now, once again, the game has changed. Nox and Charli’s hot sensual encounter has grown into something more but it is threatened with secrets and regrets. Is it their love and intense sexual chemistry that’s pushing them together or something darker, a puppetmaster behind the scenes pulling the strings on their love affair?

Shadowy villains lurk around each corner and everyone is suspect as Nox’s and Charli’s pasts collide with the present and threaten to compel them back to their predestined fates.

Can deals brokered in the past be negated by something as pure as love and as steamy as the attraction shared by Nox and Charli? Or was it all a deception—starting with that very first meeting?

Pat leaned back against the couch. “I had a good feeling seeing you with Lennox. Besides, you have that whole one-week history…” He fingered the rim of his wine glass, and I tried to ignore how it reminded me of my martini glass only hours before. “I’m sure you can work through this.”

“He has my number.”

“If these were normal circumstances, I’d tell you to forget all about him. I mean, who needs someone like Lennox Demetri? I can only imagine it’d be awful to have a boyfriend who redecorates a room for you, practically weeks after you move in. One who cares enough about your dreams to pay for your education and buy you whatever you want or need, one who gives you the ability to tell Uncle Alton and Aunt Adelaide to stick their conditions up their tight asses. And girl, his looks. Damn, nobody wants to put up with those sexy blue eyes. I mean the way they light up when you walk into a room and he looks at you like he’d eat you whole. I can see how that would get old fast.” He took a drink of his wine. “Honestly, I’m not sure how you managed to stay for this long.” He shrugged. “There’s always good ole Bryce.”

I sat forward, put my wine glass on the coffee table, and after placing my elbows on my knees, cradled my head. “I don’t need Bryce. Why do I need a man?”

“If you don’t know the answer to that question, my opinion of Lennox Demetri has just plummeted. I mean, I’m sure you have a vibrator.”

One week. No future. No past. No more.

Alexandria Collins has one week to live carefree—no ghosts of her past or pressures of her future haunting her. Reinventing herself as “Charli,” she is knocked off her feet by a sexy, mysterious man who brings her pleasure like she never imagined. With her heart at stake, she forgets that decisions made in the dark of night reappear in the bright light of day.

“Some of my tastes are unique. They aren’t for everyone. I understand that.”

Lennox “Nox” Demetri is wealthy, confident, and decisive—he knows what he wants. From the first time he sees Charli at an exclusive resort, he knows he wants her. Although he is usually the one to make the rules, together they agree on one:

One week. No more.

When betrayal comes from those closest to Alexandria, she must decide how far she is willing to go to survive. Choices are not always easy, especially when they involve the heart, body, and soul. After all, Infidelity is a business, and some rules are meant to be broken.

“Is it really cheating if you’re doing it to yourself?”

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a sexy, new dominant hero who knows what he wants, and a strong-willed heroine who has plans of her own. “He owns you. Whatever he tells you to do you do”.

One year. No future. A past that won’t go away.

“New rules…my rules.”

Alex “Charli” Collins found pleasure with Nox like she’d never known. That was before she knew his last name. Now that Infidelity is involved and the rules have changed, what will result when real life and fantasy collide?
