Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard hasn’t had an easy year. After losing her husband, she is raising two small children alone while trying to navigate the tricky and sometimes shallow halls on Capitol Hill. A string of nasty speeches has her scrambling to apologize to any number of candidates, including newly elected Republican Jack McIntyre. Falling in love again is the last thing on her mind.

Jack McIntyre might have a reputation as a playboy, but he has his sights set solely on his new colleague. Can he break through Caroline’s grief and capture her heart?

~Synopsis~

“I’m never going to stop loving you, Caroline. It’s just not possible.”

Major Caroline Gerard returns from a dangerous mission battered and bruised. Terrified to confront the emotional and physical gap between her and her husband, she’s determined to do whatever it takes to avoid reality.

Commander Jack McIntyre has been tasked with saving American democracy, but he has to save his marriage first. He’s desperate to regain the passionate connection that he and his wife once shared. And a man on a mission will sacrifice anything to succeed.

In the meantime, the rebellion is in need of a catalyst to spur international action to stop President Santos’ increasingly unstable behavior. As Caroline and Jack repair their hearts, each day brings new secrets and new challenges, and a revelation that could shatter everything they thought was true.

Rhapsody is the fifth book in The Bellator Saga. It should be read after the first four books in the series.

REVIEW

I’ve been devoted to this series since early 2015 when Dissident grabbed me, sucked me and wouldn’t let go. The Bellator Saga was one of my TOP favorite reads of 2015, and now with the fifth installment of Rhapsody – it might just hit my #1 Favorite read of 2016.

In Phoenix – the fourth book in the series, Jack & Caroline were finally reunited – though it was not the reunion we had hoped for. Caroline has suffered more physically and emotionally than any human being should have to. And all because she was standing up for what she believes in – the democracy that has kept our country and it’s people free. But as she and Jack navigated through a country that no longer resembles that – Caroline lost more than just her friends…. more than just her family…. more than just the beautiful life she and Jack had built together; she lost herself.

Even now, in Rhapsody – Caroline is safe – she’s physically safe, yet her toughest challenge is ahead of her; facing everything that has happened to her and the immeasurable amount of guilt and loss she’s suffered through fighting this revolution. I was desperate through this entire novel – desperate for Caroline to snap out of the pain and finally see what’s in front of her – everything we’ve loved about this series has surrounded these two – Jack and Caroline. But if Caroline can’t see what’s in front of her? Is there any hope?

The soul of this story – these two…. to see them be so close once again, only to be so far apart was fucking agonizing. I felt real pain for these two – my heart broke for them. I felt Caroline’s fear, and i felt Jack’s hope…. and also his frustrations. I ached with him – I felt the pull.

Jack is holding on so hard to the past and the memories of Caroline while he tries to get the woman before him to open up – to feel her pain – to acknowledge it and allow him to help her. But Caroline is drowning…. not sure how to break to the surface again.

But a person can only take so much…

Rhapsody is a significant piece in the Bellator Saga – a series that has captivated me from the very beginning. Caroline & Jack aren’t just characters – they’re living… breathing….tangible things for me. When they hurt – I hurt. I’ve felt every single sentence Cecilia London has written in this series. Rhapsody is no different – it’s an emotionally consuming novel that will leave you breathless with anticipation with each page.

The Bellator Saga is an all-consuming love affair full of suspense, humor and the kind of love and passion that keeps hope alive.

Dissident:

Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard is reluctant to fall in love again after losing her husband. Can Republican playboy Jack McIntyre break through her grief and capture her heart? Conscience:

Caroline faces the biggest challenge of her life when confronted with the cruelty and sadism of her captors at The Fed. Hope fades quickly, even as she holds onto her one last bit of sanity and her unshakable belief that her husband will rescue her. But is that faith just a mirage?

Sojourn:

Reeling from her experiences at The Fed, Caroline tries to forge ahead and create a new identity. But that’s hard to do with the ghosts of the past constantly whispering in her ear. She is determined to find the rebellion and move on with her life, but what will she find when she arrives there?

When they reached the ballroom he locked the door behind him. Jack walked over to one of the decorative side tables and produced a box wrapped with red paper.

“Merry Christmas,” he said, handing it to her.

“Why didn’t you give this to me earlier?”

“I needed us to be in private when I gave it to you. Open it.”

It had to be jewelry. “I told you not to get me anything outlandish.”

“I don’t have to listen to you. Even if we are married.”

Caroline ripped the paper away. She opened the box and was greeted with an exquisite emerald necklace. Fringe design, with each individual green stone framed by tiny sparkling diamonds. The necklace was dripping with jewels from end to end. It looked like a prop from an eighties soap opera except it was stunningly, gorgeously real. She wouldn’t even want to speculate about the cost. “Jack-”

“Do you like it?” he asked.

She was convinced he only gave her presents just to gauge her reaction. To see how long she’d gawk at them before starting to gush. Caroline wasn’t refined when it came to her spontaneous responses to him. Did she like the necklace? A rather silly question since it was one of the most amazing things she’d ever seen.

“It’s beautiful,” she whispered.

He took the box from her. “I didn’t recall seeing you with anything other than sapphires or diamonds. We’re going to have to do something about that.”

She could only imagine the media attention they’d get if she paraded around wearing a necklace that cost more than what the average household made in a year, several times over. Sometimes her husband forgot that he was running for governor, not auditioning for the cast of Falcon Crest. “It’s too much, Jack. It’s so…elaborate. I can’t wear that in public.”

He smiled. “Then don’t. Wear it just for me.”

“Just around the house? Like, when I’m watching baseball and stuff?”

He laughed. “‘And stuff’?”

Her language was less polished than usual. “I’ve had a ton to drink today. I can’t always be articulate.”

Jack pulled her to him, leaning toward her ear. “How about you wear the necklace and nothing else, and grant your husband a dance?”

Now she saw where he was going. “A nice Christmas waltz?” Caroline suggested. “Fully clothed, of course. We must always be proper.”

He tugged at her sweater. “Try again.”

His romantic and seductive gestures were sweet, but impractical. “It’s cold in here.”

“I’ll turn the heat up.”

“What about you?”

“We don’t need to worry about me.”

Caroline sighed. “I meant your clothes.”

He unbuttoned her pants. “They’re staying on.”

That seemed unfair. “I’m not sure I like this power differential.”

Jack ran a finger under the waistband of her panties. “I think you do,” he whispered.

She shivered when he pulled her pants and underwear down. “Will there be music? Or are you going to parade my naked self around the ballroom in silence?”

“I picked a special song for the two of us.” He grinned. “And you won’t be naked. You’ll be wearing the necklace.”

She ran her hands down the front of his shirt, imagining how it would feel for her bare chest to rub against it while they danced. “You will undress at some point, right?”

He kissed her again. “Upstairs. Let me do this,” he said softly, stripping off the rest of her clothes, even her bra and panties. He laughed when he reached her socks. “Are those dinosaurs?”

Caroline liked wearing fun socks. She didn’t care if they were juvenile. She’d get away with it for as long as she could. “They’re wearing little Santa hats.”

Though he’d started to yank them down, he hastily pulled them back up to below her knees. “These can stay on. But only because they make you look so damn adorable.”

She tried not to think of what she’d look like wearing nothing but whimsical dinosaur knee socks and an emerald necklace, but the expression on his face indicated that Jack didn’t particularly care. He kissed her deeply before retrieving the necklace. He took his time placing it around her neck, then stepped back to look at her. It took all her effort not to blush. She hadn’t anticipated the night ending this way.

Jack tipped her chin up. “You look fucking marvelous.”

Her face had to be as red as a cherry. “Even with the socks?”
He brushed a stray hair out of her face. “There are few things sexier than a woman wearing an emerald necklace and dinosaur socks…and nothing else.”

REVIEW: Cream of the Crop (Hudson Valley #2) by, Alice Clayton

25056216

2b6ca-addtogoodreadsblack

Amazon | B&N | KOBO | iBooks | Audible

~ Synopsis ~

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton brings her trademark blend of funny and sexy to this second contemporary romance int eh brand-new Hudson Valley Series!

Manhattan’s It Girl, Natalie Grayson, has it all: she’s a hot exec at a leading advertising firm, known industry-wide for her challenging and edgy campaigns. She’s got a large circle of friends, a family that loves her dearly, and her dance card is always full with handsome eligible bachelors. What else could a modern gal-about-town wish for? The answer, of course, is… cheese.

Natalie’s favorite part of each week is spending Saturday morning at the Union Square Farmer’s Market, where she indulges her love of all things triple cream. Her favorite booth also indulges her love of all things handsome. Oscar Mendoza, owner of the Bailey Falls Creamery and purveyor of the finest artisanal cheeses the Hudson Valley has to offer, is tall, dark, mysterious, and a bit oblivious. Or so she thinks. But that doesn’t stop Natalie from fantasizing about the size of his, ahem, milk can.

Romance is churning, passion is burning, and something incredible is rising to the top. Could it be…. love?

REVIEW

I have been in the worlds WORST book funk for months – blame it on the 55hr work weeks, blame it on whatever…. I’ve completely cheated on my Kindle with Netflix, movies and painting my damn nails. But there is nothing and I mean NOTHING like a new Alice Clayton book to break you out of that funk!

Her humor – and snarky heroine’s are some of my absolute favorite things. The innuendo, the HUMOR! And of course, the little tidbits of 90’s pop culture she throws in there to make a girl my age totally fucking swoon. Like in Nuts – when Roxy is all about the blonde hunky farmer Leo ala Almanzo Wilder – Little House on the Prairie. Or Caroline in Wallbanger trying to get her “O” back by diving into her spank bank and bring out a little Jordan Catalano action in the boiler room. This is why I love this woman.

Cream of the Crop is no different – but hit home a lot harder for a lot of different reasons. Natalie, one of Roxy’s best friends we were introduced to in Nuts – is crushing on her own Bailey Falls Farmer – The creator of the most amazing cheese this side of the Hudson River… Oscar Mendoza, who by shear coincidence is selling his amazing cheese at her favorite farmer’s market in the city every Saturday – to which of course, Natalie is there to have a two syllable conversation and ogle the hell out of his brie – taking her cheese and scurrying away like a little mouse. Where is the loud – no-fucks-given – hip swaying girl we caught a glimpse of in Nuts? Well apparently when Oscar is around – Natalie turns into all of us at 14 – a nervous ball of pent up energy.

There are many things I loved about Natalie – she is for sure your classic Clayton heroine – but there’s something else. She’s a size 18 and unapologetic about it – which I adore. She’s brazen – she’s loud – and she knows that her hips, thighs and chest are larger in proportion but also in charge. But as we dive deeper into the story we find out this confidence wasn’t always there and I may have shed a tear or two of her back story – of the pain she felt, the humiliation – the sheer hatred of your own body is something most women experience at some point in their life. It’s  just time – growth and realization that makes us finally comfortable in our own skin. Hell i’m 38 and still struggle with this, so reading this book…. it cut me more than once.

Natalie and Oscar … good god, Clayton has basically given us Jason Momoa & Christina Hendricks, down to her hip swaying curves and his sexy-as-hell scar thru his eyebrow. Oscar is a block of man – doesn’t talk much and holds that quiet mysterious thing we all kind of love…. Natalie is hilarious trying to work out how to be around him with out acting like a fool – running away – scarring his cows and finally just taking what she wants; as she would in any other situation with a man.  But as the relationship between these two evolve, there is the ever present back story – with both of them and as things come together – things start to fall apart and we have to wonder, can the Dairy Farmer give this City girl everything she needs? Or is Natalie a little too high maintenance for Oscar’s life on the farm? Are their lives just too different to mesh together?

I love all things Alice Clayton – if you haven’t read any of her books, stop whatever you’re doing and grab one – any one – and you will fall in love with the snark – the humor – and yes,  definitely the smut.

REVIEW

I don’t even know how to start this review. Phoenix had me in such emotional turmoil….. the angst…. the suspense… and Jack? *Sigh*

Phoenix, being the fourth book in the series I was prepared. Or so I thought…

I try to go into each of these books with some knowledge that Ms. London is going to eviscerate me in some way shape or form, because I’m attached to these characters in a way I rarely feel. They’ve become a tangible thing at this point in my mind. I’m invested, and after everything they went through in Sojourn? I knew Cecilia London wasn’t finished – she would take us through even more and she did not disappoint.

It’s impossible to pick a favorite in this series – all four books thus far are equally emotional and addictive. Typically in a series I’ll find there’s a lull somewhere in the story, but not with the Bellator Saga.

Not.At. All.

Phoenix is different – Caroline is struggling to face everything she’s been working so hard to forget and Jack? Jack is trying…. god is he trying his hardest to be by her side throughout – if she’d only let him. Everything I originally fell in love with throughout this series is in Phoenix – even if the story is a bit different, everything that made me fall in love with Jack & Caroline is here… and this ever evolving series is far from over.

Phoenix left me with so many hard-core emotions I really didn’t know what to do with myself. I read this book basically in one sitting. I cried with Caroline, I felt the desperate hopelessness of both Jack and Caroline…. I felt every single word in this book. Cecilia London is the master of suspenseful emotions… leaving you on the verge of a nervous breakdown one second and giving you snippets of hope you will cling onto for dear life.

Phoenix is an open wound – unapologetic and raw. I felt many things throughout this series, but Phoenix? This book hit me in the feels so hard it definitely left a mark.

 * REVIEW OF BOXSET*
This series is very different from what I typically read, and I was in a major reading funk when I picked it up but after reading the synopsis of Dissident my curiosity was definitely peeked. Dissidents prologue is action packed, full of suspense and cultivates questions left and right as the heroine, Caroline is on the run with Jack…. but from who? This is just one question you’ll have as you dive into The Bellator Saga, a series that grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go – as the story begins we’re sent back five years, the story developing through both past/present tense slowly unveiling secrets …. dark secrets that are lurking throughout every.single.chapter. Cecilia London warns us this is a six book series, ending with a cliffhanger ….and I’m not sure I’ve ever been as affected by a series before – to the point where I’m emailing the author pictures of my face covered in tears….. hating her – loving the characters and having real fear for what is going to happen next. Again though… Dissident is only the beginning.
As the story continues in Conscience we pickup right where we left off in Dissident, Caroline is slowly recovering… only to wake up in a nightmare I’m not sure I could handle…. reading this book, Cecilia London broke me – and broke me hard. I’ve felt for characters in the past – I mean who hasn’t? But when you’re sobbing to the point you can’t even continue reading? Just one sentence…. and the image of a stuffed hippo. Even thinking about it breaks my heart – months later. Read.This.Series. You will understand. The Bellator Saga is a series I have told endless people about and one that’s soooooo hard to explain without spoiling the entire story for you. But trust me, you will fall in love with Caroline. She’s a quick witted smart mouthed politician who stands up for herself, and the people that mean most to her. The friendships she holds dear, you will find yourself feeling the same – you’ll want to be a part of their conversations, their inside jokes. Throw Jack McIntyer into the mix and you have some of  the hottest scenes I’ve read in a very long time.
The Bellator Saga is very much a genre crossing series that will stick with you for a very long time. You will laugh with Caroline, you will fall hard for Jack, you will have hope in your heart that there is a light at the end of this tunnel …. you will feel every single piece of this series.
