5++++ REVIEW: Triumph (The Bellator Saga #6) by Cecilia London

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks

~ Synopsis ~

“All of your ideals, your hopes and dreams…they cease to patter if you abandoned them in your darkest hour. We have to see this through to the end.”

Jack McIntyre and Caroline Gerard have never shied away from a challenge. As dual commanders of the American rebel forces, they now face the greatest adversity of their lives. Every decision has permanent consequences. Relationships are tested and restored. Hard truths come to light. When the reality of thewir situation finally hits them, there is one thing they know for certain.

No sacrifice is too great for love.

This review may be the hardest one of my blogging life. Because even starting it  ( two weeks too late I might add) means that this series is over. There is no more Caroline & Jack. Nothing. This is the end. This is it. The finale is here.

And what a fucking ride it was!

I’ve been a little more than obsessed with this series since I dove in nearly two years ago. Caroline & Jack are the heart of this story – a Political Suspense that is mirroring our very existence as I type this. It’s frightening. My sister while reading Dissident ( the first book of the series) kept texting me asking if Cecilia was a psychic – she herself insisting she’s not writing meta fiction. She wove this series flawlessly – through all the ups and downs, the back and forth through time – digging her claws into me with the first chapter.  Triumph was everything I could have possibly hoped for in the finale.

It was action packed – hot as fuck – and culminates everything that made me obsessed with the series in the first place.

After everything Jack & Caroline – their family and friends have been through – my god. It’s a lot to digest. It’s a lot to feel. And that’s exactly what I did. I feel in love with all of these characters that it was like a kick to the gut having to say goodbye.

I’ve begged and pleaded – maybe even threatened Cecilia that Jack & Caroline better get their happily ever after.

She did not disappoint.

I don’t know if a series of books has hit me as hard as these – the stories are tragic, suspenseful, frightening and sexy as hell. But even through everything Cecilia London sprinkles her famous sarcastic wit, the banter her characters engage in is some of the best stuff I’ve ever read. She’s had my laughing on minute, sobbing another, and curling my toes in anticipation of what Jack’s got up his sleeve.

You can’t pigeon hole this series. It’s not just a political thriller, it’s not just a romance – it’s everything and above all else, fucking amazing.

February has been a very hard month for me personally – a lot of stuff has popped up in my family, and with work and it’s been the most stressful two weeks ever. I keep my Kindle with me at all times. It’s always in my purse, and as I sat in many hospital rooms – cars to hospitals and hotel rooms. I re-read Triumph for the second time and it kept me sane. It kept me going. Caroline & Jack – everything they accomplished – everything they over came – the entire conclusion to this epic six book series gave me something to hold on to when i really thought I was going to lose it at any moment.

This book will always hold a special place in my heart – for a million different reasons. This one left it’s mark.

If you haven’t checked out The Bellator Saga yet – do so ASAP – and be thankful you started it after the series conclusion – Cecilia LOVES a cliff hanger ending.

ARC REVIEW: The Confessions by, Tiffany Reisz

Amazon | B&N | KOBO | iBooks | Signed Paperbacks @ Jan’s Paperbacks

~ Synopsis ~

Three Sinners. Three confessions. And all the dirty little secrets you could possibly desire…

Father Stuart Ballard has been Marcus Sterns’ confessor since the young Jesuit was only eighteen years old. He thought he’d heard every sin the boy had to confess until Marcus uttered those three fateful words: ‘I met Eleanor.”

So begins the 40-page “The Confession of Marcus Sterns,” a moving coda to the RITA®  Award-Winning Original Sinners series. Originally published as a limited-edition paperback for the 2014 RT Booklovers’ Convention, and available worldwide for the first time.

This collection also includes “The Confessions of Eleanor Scheriber,” a companion 36-page story written exclusively for The Confessions.

And, finally, all secrets are revealed in “The Confession of Tiffany Reisz,” an exclusive, in-depth interview.

Be aware – if you haven’t read The Original Sinners series yet? (and why the hell haven’t you???) there may be spoilers ahead…

I was more than a little excited when I received an ARC of The Confessions. I was walking into my yoga class, scrolling through my emails and literally squealed, embarrassing myself and scaring some older woman. I turned around – walked out – and sat in my car for nearly twenty minutes, diving in head first.

I’m fairly new to the Original Sinners, I just picked them up last year and I’m still recovering from The Queen. I’ve been so enthralled with this series the last couple of months, reading all eight books and then going through each little story in-between, now indulging yet again with The White Years on Audible.

So when Tiffany Reisz said she was actually releasing a novella – The Confessions….an updated version of the 40-page limited edition? I was a tad bit excited…. just a tad.

In this short novella we’re given Confessions from both Soren and Eleanore. And then, god bless her, we’re treated to an indulgent Q&A with the Queen herself, Ms. Tiffany Reisz.

Be warned, if you haven’t finished the complete eight book series? The Confessions does contain spoilers. You’ve been warned.

Marcus Sterns sits down with Father Stuart Ballard, probably one of the funnest priests I’ve ever read. A priest that would prefer listening to Guns & Roses than to his own congregations choir sing. The man has the best sense of humor – one that will help him with Marcus’s (Soren’s) confession. Because it takes a brave and understanding soul…. no less a priest to handle the amount of burden bestowed to them with Marcus. Father Ballard is aware of Soren’s predilections…. he’s aware of the time he’s spent with Kingsley… he knows Soren’s deepest and darkest secrets. And deep down, you can tell he cares greatly for him…. from the angry fearsome boy he met, to the man and faithful priest he is now… there is great affection between these two.

To witness Soren being so open was…. quite jarring. You know he has fierce emotions when it comes to Eleanor & Kingsley, but to witness his vulnerability with Father Ballard… well, it was something I wasn’t quite prepared for. It was quite something to see, witness even as his confession flows out of him… honestly… brutally and strangely sanguine.

I fell for Soren all over again…. and perhaps even more. If that was at all possible.

But just when you think this story can’t get any better? Eleanor takes lead … and my favorite smartass switch is at her best in this short. She’s vulnerable – only to Father Ballard, because Eleanor is stubborn, questioning her own feelings and finding every little flaw within them. But her feelings are real…. true and something I had wondered about for a very long time. Eleanor’s Confessions were beautifully satisfying…

And just wait until the Q&A with Tiffany Reisz – you will not be disappointed.

It is that time a year again – my 2015 favorite reads.

A few of these may be older books – not released in 2015, but my favorite reads of the year non the less. AND yes, I added multiples from my favorite authors – because sometimes, you can’t pick just one!

5++++ REVIEW…………. HERE

~ Synopsis ~

Ava has watched her parents, Caleb and Maggie live the perfect fairy tale, the perfect love story, played out in front of her eyes her entire life. Her family is love, life and happiness. The Jacobsons are everything a family should be and Ava is loved and well taken care of. But the one thing that’s missing from her life is the one thing she’s waited for every day, the one thing her kind knows will make them complete, the one thing they thought was gone and lost forever; her significant.

Seth has lived with the Watsons his entire life. They’re the only family he knows, but he knows that there are things they keep from him. He knows that they lie and they do unspeakable evil, things from when he was a child that he can barely remember that cling to the edges of his memory. He barely remembers his real mother and all he knows is what he’s told. He doesn’t know what to trust. He wants to believe that the Watsons love and care for him, have his best interests at heart, but he isn’t so sure of that anymore when he finally – after a lifetime of waiting for her – meets his soulmate, and the Watson’s first act is to try to take her away from him.

The Virtuoso worlds collide, hearts are exposed, humans are endangered and the lives of Seth and Ava are changed forever. They’ll have to love without judgement or reservation, they’ll have to be wise and accepting beyond their years, they’ll have to forgive for things before they’ve even happened, they’ll have to trust without seeing, have faith without knowing and they’ll have to light their own way int he dark when everyone else is blind to show them the way. And more than anything…. they’ll fight like hell to keep each other.

It felt like I was waiting a VERY long time for this book – after everything that Maggie and Caleb went through in the Significance Series – to be able to see what they’re up to now was awesome, and to see their daughter Ava go through the chaos with Seth was very reminiscent of the first four books – I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Gus (Bright Side #2) by, Kim Holden

5+++ REVIEW …………….. HERE

~ Synopsis ~

The journey that began in top-rated, best-selling Bright Side, continues …

This is the story of Gus.
Losing himself.
Finding himself.
And healing along the way.

“ … but the honest-to-God truth is I don’t even know how to function anymore. Bright Side wasn’t only my best friend; she was like my other half … the other half of my brain, the other half of my conscience, the other half of my sense of humor, the other half of my creativity, the other half of my heart. How do you go back to doing what you did before, when half of you is gone forever?”

Gus….. good God. This book gutted me. I started at a point this year where I was suffering from one of my worst reading slumps. I had to stop and pick it back up when I could appreciate it. And i’m so glad I did. Apparently I needed a vacation and while I was running around Wales this summer with my husband I picked Gus back up and couldn’t put it down until I was finished with it. It reminded me of how much I missed Kate, and how much I loved Bright Side.

Fangirl & Eleanor & Park by, Rainbow Rowell

~ Synopsis ~

From the author of the New York Times bestseller Eleanor & Park.

A coming-of-age take of fan fiction, family and first love.

Cath is a Simon Snow Fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan.

But for Cath, being a fan is her life – and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Reading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t leg go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words…. And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?
And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

5++++ REVIEW of Eleanor & Park …….. HERE

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks * Audible

~ Synopsis ~

Bono met his wife in high school, Park says.
So did Jerry Lee Lewis, Eleanor answers.
I’m not kidding, he says.
You should be, she says, we’re 16.
What about Romeo and Juliet?
Shallow, confused, then dead.
I love you, Park says.
Wherefore art thou, Eleanor answers.
I’m not kidding, he says.
You should be.

Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love—and just how hard it pulled you under.

These two books blew me away this year and I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve re-read them via Audible. Fangirl – Cather…. everything about this story was sweet and beautiful. Eleanor & Park, everything everyone says about it is true. It will remind you what it was like to connect with someone at an age where you don’t think anyone could possibly understand you. The music is pretty bad ass to boot!

Obviously both of these books weren’t published in 2015 – but they were new to me this year.

The Original Sinners Series , by Tiffany Reisz

Tiffany Reisz - The Red Years

Tiffany Reisz - The White Years

You can check out my reviews here: The Siren | The Angel | The Prince | The Mistress  (more reviews to come!)

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks * Audible

I have been living in a perpetual state of Tiffany Reisz for many months now – how I’ve not picked these books up until now is beyond me. I grabbed a few paperbacks sifting through thrift stores in Wales and the second I picked up The Siren – not even 1/4 through the book I was downloading book 2 and 4 onto my Kindle. The one thing I can be thankful for is that all books were released by the time I picked up the first. Because this woman LOVES  a cliffhanger –

These books – these characters – these stories are so intertwined through each book, I was mesmerized by them. I still refer to them as real people when I try to explain the stories to friends. Because they were – and still are very real to me. I feel for them – I feel their pain, their love…. all of it.

Beautiful Bastard Series & The Wild Seasons Series, by Christina Lauren

Christina Lauren

You can read my reviews here  – Beautiful Beloved (Beautiful Bastard #3.6) | Beautiful Secret (Beautiful Bastard #4) | Dark Wild Night (Wild Seasons #3)

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks * Audible

There will never be a favorites list that doesn’t include Christina Lauren for me – they’re to of my absolute favorites. Their stories and characters are both sexy and hilarious. Their sense of humor is fantastic – the banter, the sex – everything. Beautiful Beloved we got to see a peek at Sara & Max and their family life now – and dredge deeper into Max’s brother’s life….. Niall Stella in Beautiful Secret. Move over Max, Niall just kicked you out of my favorite brit spot. Good god.

And as much as I loved the two new installments in their Beautiful Bastard series – I was sooooo excited for Lola & Oliver’s story and they did NOT disappoint!

2015 Novels by Alessandra Torre

Alessandra Torre

You can check out my reviews here: Do Not Disturb (Deanna Madden #2) | Tight | Hollywood Dirt | If You Dare (Deanna Madden #3)

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks * Audible

2015 was a fantastic year for Alessandra Torre and an even better year for her readers as we got not one but FOUR books from her! This year she took a darker turn with the continuation of her Deanna Madden series, and then she brought us something different with Tight and Hollywood Dirt. Tight being something dark and sinister – and Hollywood Dirt a more contemporary story for her. All four books I loved equally for different reasons and there was no way I couldn’t add all of them.

I make these lists this way, otherwise it would be nothing but Alessandra Torre and CD Reiss

CLEAR: A Death Trippers Novel by, Jessica Park

5 Star REVIEW………. HERE

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iTunes

~ Synopsis ~

CLEAR: A Death Trippers Novel

Stella Ford’s grasp on reality is already loose, and it’s about to come undone.

When the college junior flees Chicago and leaves her toxic family behind, she heads to coastal Maine to find the one person who brought her peace years ago: Sam Bishop. But the Sam she once knew now has painful secrets.

Stella is determined to heal them both. Healing, however, is a challenge when the walls of her everyday existence collapse. And when Sam’s best friend is his worst enemy.

When the lines between life and death blurs.

When and end is just a beginning.

When lust and rage rule.

Yet during extraordinary chaos, there can be extraordinary love, even if that love comes with a twist.

Welcome to death tripping.

A triller, a paranormal, and a passionate romance, CLEAR crosses genres and breaks boundaries.

Clear is STILL one of the most original stories I’ve read in the last three or four years. It’s everything like the synopsis says – a thriller…. a paranormal and a passionate romance. But above all else, you get that biting narration of Jessica Park – an author that writes a story for you to live in. Not just read – but really live in while you’re experiencing it. And Clear did just that – I felt every single thing about it – the relationships between Stella, Sam and Costa? Do yourself a favor and pick this gem up – if you’re not into paranormal novels? You’re in luck – because this is not your average paranormal. It’s a story unlike anything you’ve read before and you will not be disappointed.

The ending of her Cocktail Series & The Beginning of her Hudson Valley Series – Alice Clayton

Alice Clayton

5++++ Star REVIEWS:  Last Call (Cocktail #4.5) | Nuts (Hudson Valley #1)

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks * Audible

Anyone whose read my blog knows I’m a lover of all things Alice Clayton. Last Call – the ending to her Cocktail Series was bittersweet – bitter because it was the end, and sweet because it was the best possible ending of a series I’ve ever read. When I heard she was writing a new series called Hudson Valley? Of course I was on board – but I had no idea how fast and hard I’d fall for her new characters.

Roxie and Leo are not Caroline and Simon – they’re the best kind of humor all on their own – a totally different world and new characters I can’t WAIT to meet!

The Bellator Saga by, Cecilia London

Bellator Saga

5+++ REVIEWS: Dissident (Bellator Saga 1) | Conscience (Bellator Saga #2) | Sojourn (Bellator Saga 3)

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks

The Bellator Saga by Cecilia London has been one of my favorite series of 2915 and looks to be one of my favorites to continue on into 2016 with her upcoming release of Phoenix. This is a series is raw – thrilling and leaves you reading as fast as you can to see what’s going to happen next. A drama – a political thriller and yes, a romance. Caroline and Jack will suck you in and leave you desperate to find out what happens next.

The characters are three dimensional, the humor – the depth – the feelings…. oh Jesus, the range of emotions Cecilia London has put me through in just the first three books? I’ve cursed her, I’ve laughed at the inside jokes and I’ve shed more tears than I thought possible. This is a six part series and I’m desperate to find out what happens next!

2015 Novels by C.D. Reiss

CD Reiss

5+++ REVIEWS: Coda (Songs of Submission #9) | Shuttergirl | Rule (Songs of Corruption #3) | Forbidden (Songs of Perdition #3)

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks * Audible

What an I say? CD Reiss blew me away this year in so many ways. She gave me an ending to three very different stories. Jonathan & Monica, Fiona and of course, Antonio and Theresa. But, she also gave us a new story – something very different from her Drazen family – Shuttergirl, a contemporary romance that hooked it’s fingers in and didn’t let go until the very end. There was no way in hell I could have made a decision on which of these books to pick as number one – although, Fiona has always been my favorite – and the last and final book in the series probably one of the most brutal yet beautiful stories I’ve read all year, there was no way for me to pick just one. I loved them all – all of these stories have stayed with me and will continue to.

Here’s to 2016 and the stories to be told!

5+++ REVIEW: Breathe (Songs of Submission #10) by, C.D. Reiss

Amazon * B&N * iBooks * Google

~ Synopsis ~

Discover Jonathan and Monica

He was the dream I never knew I had until he claimed me. The kinky billionaire who wanted to give pain as much as I wanted to receive it. He’d marked me as his own and I accepted him. I trust him completely. I swear I do.

But now, things are getting complicated. I have a career, and he has his claim. How far is he going to go to mark me? And am I going to run or stay?

WARNING: This novella has some of Jonathan and Monica’s roughest encounters. That’s how they like it!

*This takes place after he reclaims her in the studio, and before the second wedding. If you already love them, they’re hotter than ever!

Why the hell it’s taken me this long to review Breathe is BEYOND me! (bad blogger – BAD!)

I swear, the more I read? The lazier I get with this blog – I get sucked into the thick of these books and especially with CD Reiss’s novels – I suffer. I suffer some of the best book hangovers of my life and it’s hard to put into words what I felt while experiencing them. Because when you pick up one if her books? That’s what it is – an experience. Not just reading. But a full throttle experience. Typically one that will leave you up and down – happy – sad and above all else, turned-the-fuck-on.

Breathe was a promise, and god bless her she delivered and did not disappoint.

This book … the culmination of Jonathan & Monica – and what a ride their relationship has been. If you haven’t read any of her Songs of Submission Series? Breathe is a book that you could begin with if you want to get a taste of what their relationship is like? Or it is an added bonus (and some pretty hot ones to boot) to an already fantastic series.

The Drazen Family has given us some very interesting characters and Jonathan being the only boy of the siblings was our first. And what a first he was….

This series has really just floored me time and time again. It was one of the first since starting my blog that I really truly fell in love with and begged for more. So when CD Reiss said she was going to give us a bonus of Jonathan and Monica? I might have squealed like a little girl and jumped up and down. But when I got Breathe – and devoured it one sitting (like I typically do with ALL her books) I was floored. Because she’s already given us so much – Jonathan & Monica have already gone through so much, what else could she do? What else could she give us?

Tons – fucking tons. That’s what.

It may be a short story, but it’s packed with heavy emotion and a whole lotta’ sexy smut. Jonathan is finding his footing after everything, and Monica? Well she’s trying to find her way both in her career, and existing in their relationship. Craving Jonathan’s dominance, his love…. his body…. finding her freedom within… Jesus. It’s beautiful – brutal and made me fall in love with them all over again.

After I get through the stack of books I’m reading at the moment I’m going to dive in and do a re-read of the entire series, all over again. I miss them – these two have probably been one of my favorite book-couples of all time; ever single story is unique and leaves you yearning for more.

About the Author, C.D. Reiss

cd reiss new bio
Stalk Her: Facebook * Twitter * Website * Goodreads * Pinterest * Tumblr * Instagram

CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did embed TV story structure in her head well enough for her to take a big risk on a TV series structured erotic series called Songs of Submission. It’s about a kinky billionaire hung up on his ex-wife, an ingenue singer with a wisecracking mouth; art, music and sin in the city of Los Angeles.

Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to give the toilets a once-over every couple of weeks or chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

REVIEW: Mr. Beautiful by, R.K. Lilley

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iBooks * Audible

I’ve been remade four times in my life.

It’s a distinct feeling. Impossible to mistake. The very marked sensation of being unraveled and reknit into a new thing, a new person. It can be good or bad, helpful or harmful, but above all, it is unstoppable.

I was remade when my parents died, went from a happy childhood, into navigating a very dark world, with endless responsibilities, surrounded by enemies, and despairingly alone.

It happened again at the hands of a cowardly predator. I’d become angrier with that one, more cynical, and it undoubtedly turned me into the kinky f**k I was today.

The third happened swiftly. One day I looked up into a pair of pale blue eyes and saw the other half of my soul. Checkmate. I went from a completely controlled existence, a life where I made every decision with cold calculation, to a man overcome with feelings and emotions that were foreign but some how wonderful.

And all too soon after that cataclysmic change was this fourth one, this one where I begged a God I’d never entertained to spare the life of a woman that I could not live without.

(Following all of the characters from the Up in the Air universe in the years after the trilogy, with POV’s from James, Stephan, Frankie, Tristan and Akira.)

Oh, Mr. Cavendish….. how I missed you.

This review is soooooooooo over-due, good god! (I’m a bad blogger).

This book has been carted around on my Kindle forever! I read it back in July, I think I’ve been waiting to read it for so long because I knew once it was over? That would be it – no more Mr. Cavendish, no more Bianca, no more Stephan…. and I wasn’t sure I was ready for that. Because this series has been one of my absolute favorites since I dove head-first into the land of smut! It was one of the first trilogies I read after 50 Shades and I fell head-over-heels for James Cavendish, more than I did for Christian Grey!

So when the trilogy ended – I was heart-broken, even though R.K. Lilley gave us a beautiful ending – it was still sad to think that I wouldn’t be able to experience anything else with James & Bianca. So when she announced Mr. Beautiful was coming out – I was ridiculously happy!!

Getting a little inside information on how James dealt with everything that happened through the Up in the Air Series was really interesting – throw in the added bonus of Stephan’s POV not only with his relationship with Bianca, but also Javier. And we get to delve a little deeper to see just how painful his childhood was – growing up, knowing he was gay in a very religious household.

There are a lot of emotions running high through out this book – reminding me of things I’d forgotten from the series – as James tries to come to terms with what happened to Bianca and her father – and now, that they’re finally together – and she is his, in every.single.way. How is their relationship going to evolve from what they were to husband and wife?

This book weaves through a large span of time – both in the past and far into the future giving us more than a glimpse of James & Bianca’s happily ever after. It was brutal at times – beautiful in others and above all else? Hot.As.Fuck.

Fans of the series will not be disappointed!

Check out my series review!

And that while she’s not looking for a new man, the good-looking local veterinarian has his eye on her. Absolutely, positively true.

When Lucas Campbell isn’t at the family veterinary clinic, he’s paddle boarding in Monterey Bay. Recently single, he’s definitely not in the market for a new relationship, but he still can’t resist taking a second, third, and fourth look at the recent arrival of Miss Golden State.

Neither Lucas nor Chloe has any interest in being tied down. Being tied up, however – now there’s a thought. But a few Mai Tai’s, a moonlit night, and the music of Frank Sinatra enough to allow them both to forget their past? Let’s home Ol’ Blue Eyes knows what he’s doing.

Mix one part tiki, one part kinky, and a splash of old black magic matchmaking, and it’s time to be …. Mai Tai’d Up.

How I’m JUST now reading this? Is BEYOND ME! This got lost in the shuffle of releases, it’s been out for ages and of course – I devoured it in nearly one sitting. Because that’s what I do with Alice Clayton books. I laugh, sometimes I shed a tear or two – but I without a doubt sit down and enjoy the time I have with the story because it’ll be finished before I know it.

This time around, we’re introduced to Chloe (again) as she is Mr. Clark Barrow’s cousin (yes, the same girl Viv thought Clark was canoodling with at the bar in Screwdrivered). And like most of Alice Clayton’s characters she’s got a cutting wit, a glorious sense of humor and is about to get married to a picture perfect fiance’ – have the white picket fence with 2.5 kids – the whole shebang. Accept her cold feet are starting to freeze and running out the front door on the day of her wedding, leaving her over-baring mother, fiance’ etc wondering where the hell she’s gone and what the hell happened?!

Chloe is not satisfied with her current situation – living with her mother, bailing on her wedding, a little lost in what she wants to do with herself or what she wants to be when she grows up – but as she needs an escape from her mother and the drama surrounding her pre-mature evacuation of her nuptials, her father suggests she take some time in Monterey, at his family’s beach house and figure things out.

This may be just what Chloe needs – and so much more.

Chloe’s worked with different volunteer organizations and when she’s convinced the unused land on her father’s property would be the perfect place for a rescue sanctuary for pit bulls, Chloe starts to feel her feet warming up and her future taking shape, finally working for something all on her own – an organization that she loves, and carrying for these poor abused dogs – she’s finally finding her footing in this life and in walks Mr. Veterinarian….. Lucas Fucking Campbell!

(even down to the aviator sunglasses – “bites fist”)

Through out the cocktail series there has been a buffet of gorgeous, lovable, funny men but Lucas may have just climbed hand over foot to the very top – because helloooooo Ginger-Kryptonite – Fassy Fassy Fassy! He’s adorably flirty – the innuendo is pure hilarious-sexy Clayton. My toes may have curled a time or two and yes, undoubtedly I fucking swooned. Like grasped my kindle to my chest, closing my eyes in blissful hilarity.

(just throwing another in here for good measure.)

Lucas and Chloe hit it off – fast friends both freshly out of long term relationships, but not looking for anything else – but being as they’re the only two in Monterey the same age and single? They start to spend more and more time together, Lucas’s father and their Veterinarian practice helping Chloe get her sanctuary started – but little secrets keep Chloe from getting any closer to Lucas than she has too…. Lucas is still coming off the loss of his relationship, while Chloe is more spreading her wings. He maybe the most gorgeous man she’s ever laid eyes on, and she’s definitely had moments of wondering what the stubble on his jaw would feel like between her thighs ….. but I digress.

(OK, maybe I’ve wondered the same thing.)

Alice Clayton – what can I say that I haven’t already in any other review I’ve done on her books? The woman is perfection to me – she weaves a story like no other with humor and a large dash of sexy thrown in – but always, always with a twist of flirty that will definitely leave you swoony.
