~ Synopsis ~
Simon and Caroline are back for another round of baking, banging, and big life changes. Settling in, but never settling down, Caroline has finally struck a balance between the professional and the personal. As one of the top interior designers in San Francisco, she travels all over Northern California between nook time with Simon.
Perpetual globetrotter Simon has cut his frequent flyer miles in half over the last year, preferring to balance his professional and personal life, as well.
The next step in their lives seems preordained—toasts, veils, and the aisle of rose petals. But when an accident on a photo shoot in Southeast Asia brings Caroline the most terrifying phone call she could ever imagine, she has to ask whether “till death do us part” is a more realistic prospect than faces most couples.
It’s been a grand adventure, and Caroline and Simon wouldn’t go out without the best surprise ending ever. One part sexy, one part laughter, a dash of exotic locales, and one pink nightie, mixed with passion, and you’ve got Last Call. Served with a side of Clive.
Alice Clayton has done it again – bring us yet another, albeit shorter story of Simon and Caroline, our beloved Wallbanger and Zucchini bread baker are still shacked up across the bay from San Francisco, Simon still globe-trotting for work, and Caroline busily taking on more at work – her creativity bringing her to the forefront of interior design.
As their lives mesh together – under the eave of their newly re-done home, the lives of their friends are drastically changing – marriage, children and all the other adult things that happen when you’re that age. Caroline finds herself thinking more about walking down isles than decorating them. Is Simon her Wallbanger for life? Is our beloved Simon going to make an honest woman out of Caroline and only eat her Zucchini bread … in sickness and in health, for as long as they both shall live?
And what about Clive and his harem?
I have loved ever single word written by this author – every book is like spending time with your best friend. The hilarity that is Alice Clayton jumps off the pages and leaves me laughing at my Kindle – sometimes in public with the odd looks of strangers – don’t judge; Goonies Never Say Die!
This book couldn’t have been wrapped up with any better beautiful bow – there were tears…. a lot of tears through the last quarter of the book – some good….. some bad….. and always from laughing.
We get a little peak into the lives of our other beloved characters, catching up with them and seeing how their stories have panned out ….. but above all else, this story was what Simon and Caroline deserved….. more than anything, I will miss these two (unless she gives us more Pleeeeassssee?)
But it is a beautiful – satisfying feeling when your favorite couple gets the story ending they deserve.
