OUT – SEPTEMBER 16th 2014!
~ Synopsis ~
What if you had a second chance to meet someone for the first time?
Cal Logan is shocked to see Nicole Bentley sitting across from him at a coffee shop thousands of miles from their hometown. After all, no one has seen or heard from her since they graduated over a year ago.
Except this girl isn’t Nicole.
She looks exactly like Cal’s shy childhood crush, but her name is Nyelle Preston and she has no idea who he is. This girl is impulsive and daring, her passion for life infectious. The complete opposite of Nicole. Cal finds himself utterly fascinated-and falling hard. But Nyelle is also extremely secretive. And the closer he comes to finding out what she’s hiding, the less he wants to know.
When the secrets from the past and present collide, one thing becomes clear:
Nothing is what it seems.
~ Review ~
I was fortunate enough to get an ARC of this book….. and I forced myself to pace it. I have a REALLY bad habit of devouring Rebecca’s books and then in the blink of an eye I’m done – and regretting not savoring it more… So over the long Labor Day weekend I started on this story that would undoubtedly make me feel….. laugh and cry…. and laugh some more.
I adore the nostalgia of this book….. because there’s nothing more real than the friendships you have when you’re young…. and as this story unfolds between different narrators and at different times in their lives… and as always, Rebecca flawlessly brings us through their lives… the ups and downs and making us question everything throughout the book…. it was a beautiful journey to be a part of and a story that will not leave me anytime soon…
Cal is in college – away from home, starting a life for himself when he meets Nyelle – a girl that reminds him very much of an old friend back home…. a girl he had been very close with at one point, but due to the things life throws at us… they grew apart. He can’t shake the feeling he has when he’s around her, and as these two grow closer – the hilarity that is Nyelle takes them on adventure after adventure – whether it’s just climbing a tree – or making snow angels…. the girl is all about living in the moment….
The books title says it all – the book is full of questions ….. questions about the past, questions about the future…. and questions popping up all over in the present… What If…. What If…. What If….
Because who doesn’t question things in their lives? Who doesn’t ever wonder what if I hadn’t done this – or what if things hadn’t worked out the way they did? I can think of 20 right off the top of my head right now – what if.
And that is the beauty of this story. Rebecca Donovan has taken something that everyone in the world experiences and illustrated it flawlessly with these characters.
You will want to climb trees, make snow angels and keep your childhood friends a little closer.
