The moment we’ve all been waiting for was FINALLY here this morning…. and what a way to wake up – holy shit!
2.25 minutes of the most anticipated trailer of 2014 – and it was well worth the wait. If anyone had any apprehension about the casting of Christian and Ana? I hope they were as blown away as I was..
Of course, the critics will come out with their opinions – and the bloggers will rally in their efforts boycotting this movie that it gives BDSM relationships a bad illustration, or we’re teaching our teens that abusive relationships are ok. I’ve read them all this morning – and went on a deleting spree on my Facebook page. Because if it’s one thing I can’t stand more? Is a hypocrite.
So I’m going to stand on my soapbox for a minute and reiterate – this is a work of fiction. It is for entertainment purposes only. If someone wants to use this an excuse to say it promotes abusive relationships? I think they’re missing the entire point of reading or movie watching = entertainment. If bloggers, feminists, etc want to blame this book series and the future films as a way to show teenagers abusive relationships are ok? As long as the guy is reach and good looking? I’m sorry, then you’re going to have to blame Shakespeare on every teen suicide and relationship that was hidden from their parents – every teenager that runs away and gets swept up, lies to their parents and instead of dealing with the situation? Kills themselves? Let’s go ahead and blame the rise in teenage suicide rates on Romeo and Juliet.
In other words – enjoy it for what it’s intended – entertainment. And can we puuuuuulease talk about the elevator scene? Holy-oh-my-god – had me bouncing up and down in my chair.
Thank you EL James for writing this story, developing these characters we love and instigating my love for reading all over again…..
February can’t get here soon enough!
