5++ Star Review: Rusty Nailed, by Alice Clayton

Book 2 in Alice Clayton’s Cocktail Series

Amazon * B&N * KOBO * iTunes * Audible

In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.

Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!

Oh how I love this woman’s books – it’s like sitting with your BFF and rehashing your life and the insane things going on – and of course, there’s always a little Jared Leto.

But all the gang is back! Caroline, Simon, Clive and the Kitchen Aid. But this time things are a little different – Simon is gone ALL the time, Caroline is playing manager as her boss is off gallivanting all over Europe with her new husband. Caroline is in deep – and Simon? Well – things are getting complicated (?) as their relationship progresses …. things change, feelings deepen and of course, there is a buttload of WHAT IF’S bouncing around in Caroline’s head which brings us a fantastic barrel of self inflicted drama and humor.

Alice Clayton is definitely an author (for me) where her new book comes out? I drop whatever I’m doing and read read read until it’s done. I tried to savor this one a little longer, knowing the 3rd installment isn’t due out until September….

Everything I loved about Wallbanger was back in Rusty Nailed – the humor, the passion, the life choices of a girl who questions internally everything that’s going on (like we all do.)

Clayton writes with humor and passion and reading her books is exactly what you’d want…. sitting down and being told a story by a friend, relishing every second.

I love Simon and Caroline – and of course Clive the cat. There is zucchini bread, gingerbread cookies and lots of changes as these two try to maneuver through the changes in their relationship, as their lives and careers shift.

*Favorite Quotes*

“Wait a minute, hold up. Stop everything. His name is Barry – ” I started. “-Derry?” Mimi finished. We collapsed on the floor howling amid chopsticks and soy packets. “Silence, whores, silence. Besides, Reynolds you dated a guy named James motherfucking Brown,” Sophia snapped back.

“I got into Jillian’s Mercedes and drove back across the bridge to wait for my art installation. Which never showed up. Hey, art installation? Suck my dick.”
