Book 2 in Tara Sivec’s Fool Me Once Series

Synopsis:

Ex-model Paige McCarty is fed up with being just a pretty face. After her ex-husband’s gambling problem left her royally screwed and tragically shoeless, she started Fool Me Once Investigations with her best friends, Lorlei and Kennedy, to prevent other women from being similarly played and dismayed.

The job: act as bait for a cheating husband. The target: Matt Russo. The case should be as easy as getting a man’s attention—and Paige has never had trouble with that. The problem is Matt—in all his nerdy-hot glory—turns out to be not such a scumbag after all.

And when the case hits closer to home than Paige could ever have imagined—landing her in a face-off with the mob—she wonders if taking the job just to prove that she has a brain maybe wasn’t her best idea.

This second outing for the Fool Me Once team follows in the same fun, feisty footsteps as bestselling author Tara Sivec’s Shame on You.

REVIEW:

So I’ve been on a serious Tara Sivec bender…. and this weekend, finishing the first two in this series – I can’t wait until July when we get book 3! Because with all of Sivec’s books I’ve read, once you get to know her characters – you are hooked.

They’re likeable, snarky, hilariously immature – and of course, reminds me of all the ridiculous things my friends and I have been through. Maybe not in the same lines, but the banter that goes through these girls – yes, reminds me of my own girls and the foul things we say to one another that would make anyone else look aghast – but we find perfectly fine.

Shame On Me we get to see Paige’s story unfold – after she realizes her husband Andy has gambled away all of their money – she divorces him. She hooks up with Kennedy and Lorlei – and becomes the bait for their various cases, tempting husbands into cheating on their wives – you can’t hate her though, she’s much more than a pretty face. And she’s hoping someone, someday will realize that too.

When she’s at a bar with Lorlei, on the job, she see’s Matt – the unknowing supposedly cheating husband she’s supposed to chat up and hopefully make out with so Lorlei can get some candid photos for their files and prove he’s just another rat-bastard cheating husband. But when he doesn’t immediately take the bait or even recognize her from the numerous glossy magazine’s she’s been in – she can’t help but wonder if by chance he’s different from the rest….

While Paige is supposed to be on the job following Matt – she finds herself questioning the whole job and debating on switching sides, she’s attracted to him and can’t stop the feeling that develops each time they “run” into each other… Paige just might find out that there is more than meets the eye (no, not transformers) but that not all men are pigs, and Matt just might be worth a shot..
