Shayna Gillan is on a mission: start fresh in a new state without the small town gossip that has haunted her since her bad girl days of high school.
Carter MacPherson has long been the most together member of his crazy family—until now. With a secret threatening to crumble everything he’s worked for, he wishes he could forget the recent past, too.
The last thing Shayna and Carter are looking for is a relationship. It’s best to be alone while they sort out their issues.
Friends. That’s all they can ever be.
But even the best laid plans always have a flaw, and once Shayna and Carter cross the line between friendship and more, there’s no turning back…
The only question left is—whose past will catch up to them first?
5 Star REVIEW:
This being the third book in Steph Campbell’s Grounding Quinn Series, I’ve become pretty familiar with this cast of characters. These two? Shayna and Carter stole the show. And maybe because things hit personal with me – the things that Shayna found out about her past, and the relationship with her parents. I felt her need to leave – to go on an adventure and try to find herself. Even though that adventure lead her to Carter …. always to Carter, he is good to her. He doesn’t allow her to lie to him, or to herself…. and it’s refreshing.
Carter is far from perfect and fighting his own secret demons. But these two? Watching them develop into something more…. into the relationship they’ve both needed so bad for the last year was amazing. It was real – flawed and raw. We’ve been through the ups and downs with this series, but this book just blew the rest out of the water. Grounding Quinn I enjoyed – yet she bugged the hell out of me. Shayna is a lot more relate-able and knows she’s a spoiled brat that has no real reason to feel the way she does – she wasn’t abused, she wasn’t mistreated by her parents, but when secrets are revealed, things change for her in a big way. I love that she owns her issues – and together, with Carter these two forge probably one of the most honest relationships I’ve ever read. I hope we’ll get more of these two.
