Hmmm, what do you base a guilty pleasure on? Fluff? Smut? Something my best friend would make fun of me for reading? Or an indulgence….
The Gift, by K.D. Grace
Book 1 in the Pet Shop Trilogy
In appreciation for a job well done, Stella James’s boss sends her a Pet – a human Pet. The mysterious Tino arrives equipped with a collar a leash and an erection, and Stella quickly learns that keeping Pets, especially this one, is extremely addictive. Will a chance meeting with reclusive philanthropist, Vincent Evanston, who looks an awful lot like Tino, but couldn’t be more different, double Stella’s pleasure or just be double trouble?
The Pet Shop Trilogy isn’t THE filthiest thing I’ve read in the last two years – but it’s up there, and I’m not going to lie – it’s pretty hot-as-fuck if you’re into a little kink. All the books are $.99 on Amazon, so really you read three shortish books – for less that three bucks. Not a bad deal if you ask me – and they were worth SO much more.
Is there a depth to the story? I’d say 70/30 – No/Yes. I cared enough about the characters that I wanted to see what would happen next, but honestly, the smut is what kept me coming back – all the way to the end. Because the story is bizarre – a human pet? Basically a sex slave that doesn’t speak, eats like an animal and will do ANYTHING you desire? That’s a pretty odd bonus to receive from your supervisor for a job well done! But Stella quits second guessing everything and dives head first into the whole Pet lifestyle in search of Tino – who may or may not be someone a bit more important.
I haven’t read them more than once, but if a friend asks me for suggestions of a REALLY graphic/filthy fun book The Gift is always at the top of my list.
