BOOK TWO OF THE DARK DUET
The exciting, titillating, and action-filled conclusion to Captive in the Dark.
What is the price of redemption?
Rescued from sexual slavery by a mysterious Pakistani officer, Caleb carries the weight of a debt that must be paid in blood.
The road has been long and fraught with uncertainty, but for Caleb and Livvie, it’s all coming to an end.
Can he surrender the woman he loves for the sake of vengeance?
Or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?
So, this is the sequel and sort of, final installment in The Dark Duet.
If you haven’t read Captive in the Dark – DO NOT read any further.
We’re fast forwarded a few days – and find Olivia (Kitten) in the USA – in an institution being observed by mental health professionals – and the FBI. Olivia takes us through her story from where we left off in the first book, and we find out the continued horrors she had to endure at the hands of her kidnappers. The story is told in both present – and past – as she relays all her information to the FBI agent and her psychologists. It’s hard to really get into the depth of this review without spoiling anything – but this book still leaves us punched in the gut as the things Kitten has to go through and she still thinks she’s in love with Caleb.
Questions are answered – secrets revealed… do we want Olivia and Caleb to have their happily ever after? Or should Caleb suffer the rest of his existence in prison? This is the HUGE question I’m sure weights on everyone who reads it. We don’t know if we love him, or hate him. If Kitten is just so brain washed that it’s convincing us as well that he really cares about her.
We know that Caleb suffered and endured the same abuse at such a young age – and that his captors turned him into the very monster he loathed. But he can’t run away from who he is – and he can’t seem to allow himself to truly care for Kitten – or so we think.
He pushes and pushes her away – often times in the cruelest of ways….and yet, we still feel for them, and I found myself fighting for them to break free and forge a relationship together – is that sick or what?
It’s one of those books I’m almost ashamed to have found hot – but you can’t help it, because the sex scenes are written so well that it doesn’t matter the situation – they’re hot-as-fuck. And incredibly graphic. This is not a series for the light hearten that’s for sure.
Check out C.J. Roberts extended Epilogue – of the Dark Duet to see Caleb and Olivia’s story continue – but not quite end perhaps?
“I love you, Caleb. I love you! If you care for me at all… please, don’t do this! Please, don’t leave me. I don’t know how to live without you. Don’t make me go back to trying to be someone I don’t know how to be anymore.”
“I’ve been doing this a long time- manipulating people to get my way. That’s why you think you love me. Because I’ve broken you down and built you back up to believe it. It wasn’t an accident. Once you leave this behind….. you’ll see that.
“What are you doing ?” She said and laughed.
“I was curious,” he whispered.
“About what ?”
“If happy tears taste the same as the sad ones,” he said.”
“She kisses my scars and I create new ones for her.”
