Point of Retreat is Colleen Hoover’s sequel to Slammed – told through Will. If you loved Slammed, you’ll fall in love with Point of Retreat even more.

Layken and Will are finally together. He’s graduated from college, she from high school which leaves them able to FINALLY date without consequences. Layken’s mother Julia passed away and now she is in the same predicament as Will – raising her little brother, putting herself through college and trying to be both a parent and a sister to a little boy. It’s heart breaking that these two share such a tragic experience. But they’re making the best out of it. Still living across the street from each other – Caulder and Kel still bouncing back and forth inseparable.

Julia leaves them a gift – she has Will promise not to tell Layken about it until it’s time to open it. Inside is a large glass vase full of folded paper stars – and instructions to open one if they miss her, need advice or just want a laugh. These stars keep them going through the good and bad times. When Will’s ex-girlfriend Vaughn comes back into the picture, sending Will and Layken’s relationship into a tizzy. She’s not sure she can trust him when he’s had a class with her all semester and never told her. Layken has to find out when she walks in and finds Vaughn and Will in his bedroom, and he leans over and kisses the top of her head – a move that Layken that was for her and her alone.

Will and Layken are both still growing up – even though they may be living as adults and raising two children – they’re still kids themselves and trying to find even ground between the two.

But their story is so butterflying special – you root for these two to figure out their shit. Stop carving pumpkins and get your act together damnit!
