4 outta 5 star semi-spoiler review!

On amazon right now for $.99!

Synopsis:

Olivia Kaspen has just discovered that her ex-boyfriend, Caleb Drake, has lost his memory. With an already lousy reputation for taking advantage of situations, Olivia must decide how far she is willing to go to get Caleb back. Wrestling to keep her true identity and their sordid past under wraps, Olivia’s greatest obstacle is Caleb’s wicked, new girlfriend; Leah Smith. It is a race to the finish as these two vipers engage in a vicious tug of war to possess a man who no longer remembers them. But, soon enough Olivia must face the consequences of her lies, and in the process discover that sometimes love falls short of redemption.

When I first heard about this book on Goodreads I wasn’t really jazzed about it. Ex-boyfriend has amnesia and this chick is really going to try to worm her way back into his life? Seriously? It was kind a roll the eye kind of plot for me. But someone mentioned to me on Goodreads last week that it was on sale for $.99 and I figured – why not. If it’s horrible it was less than a buck. But I was wrong – It was REALLY good. I finished in a day – and was left last night with a WTF moment at the end.

It wasn’t as bad as the mind fuck I got from Consequences – but it was still a WTF did I just read moment.

Olivia runs into her ex-boyfriend Caleb at her favorite record store. You can tell they have a less then stellar past – as she’s REALLY leary about approaching him. But when she does she finds out that he’s lost his memory from a car accident a few weeks prior. They go for coffee and are meeting again – it seems for the first time. She’s thinking this is her opportunity to reclaim him! They fell in love in college – and there’s a lot of back and forth between present and past so we’re getting the back story slowly through the new one. Which I LOVE reading this way – so we don’t get the whole story until the end and then I get that feeling finally – of OHHHHHHH Ok! I get it now!

They start hanging out more and more – and Olivia finds out that he has a girlfriend – after said girlfriend tracks him down at Olivia’s apartment and makes a scene. This woman would have been his fiance’ if he hadn’t had the accident and lost his memory – because there was a rather large Tiffany diamond engagement ring in his bedroom he finds later.

Caleb in college was your typical popular boy on campus – basketball star and all around god. Olivia isn’t much of an anyone – she’s pretty – but she doesn’t think much of herself due to the way she was raised by her single mother – and alcoholic father that came in and out of her life causing chaos. Her parents are both dead now – and she’s on her own in college, some what poor and trying to work her way into law school. She doesn’t want any distractions – until of course, Caleb takes a fancy towards her. After a rather embarrassing proclamation of his intentions at a basketball game she accepts her fate – and goes out on a date with him.  There’ s a lot of back and forth – and you get frustrated with Olivia because she’ so screwed up in the head she won’t allow herself to let anyone get close – and that doesn’t really work when you’re in a relationship. Fast forward months later after A LOT of drama behind the scene’s (I won’t spoil it for you.) Caleb and her finally get together and start to forge a relationship. They still have yet to do the deed – Olivia is still a virgin and you can see this is becoming some what frustrating for Caleb.

There were together for three years – and he’s the only man Olivia’s ever loved – but in one night everything changes. Olivia believes Caleb’s a liar – a cheat – everything her father was and she runs – she spends the night in a hotel and Caleb finds her the next morning. She tells him all the horrible secrets she’s been holding back for years and breaks him – he falls to his knees – and cries. He walks out the door and is gone from her life…. she thinks forever. Fast forward to the present and they’re kind of dating again – but he has no idea who Olivia is or the horriable things that happened between them years ago. You kind of feel sorry for him – and you kind of hate Olivia to a point, but then you wonder would you do the same if you were thrust into that situation? Getting a second chance with the long lost love of your life?

Tarryn Fisher writes really well – and leaves you slack jawed yelling at your kindle WTF! She doesn’t hold back either – she shows just how crazy Olivia is when she’s in her stalker mode – and makes us see the side of ourselves we know exists deep down – but it’s kind of hard to watch 😉

The Opportunist is Book 1 in her Love Me With Lies series – it’s a semi-stand along novel where we don’t have a massive cliffhanger at the end that we love/hate – but Book 2: Dirty Red is Leah’s story – and you’ll meet her during the Opportunist – and probably hate her as much as I did. But if Caleb’s involved? Well, we’ll just have to find out what he’s up too now won’t we?
